DESCRIPTION:In the European Union several nuclear facilities are closed or may stop their operation in the coming decade. The need to proceed with decommissioning creates a potential for new industrial activities. The availability of qualified personnel to support the emerging decommissioning market is an asset for the European industry. \nThe present JRC-Ispra Summer School is addressed to students with a graduate degree pursuing a master in the area of engineering\, science and technology\, who have not yet a professional activity and want to profit from their holidays’ time to enrich their curriculum in an area that offers new technological challenges. \nThe course programme can be consulted here.

SUMMARY:Training course on radioactive waste management
DESCRIPTION:This intensive unique seven day course will give a comprehensive overview of different aspects involved in the management of radioactive waste. The course modules will handle operational radioactive waste management during collection\, characterization\, conditioning\, transport and (interim) storage. \nCourse topics will focus on international best practices and regulations\, national and international state-of-the-art. The course benefits from expertise from the point of view of waste producers\, waste management organisations and nuclear regulators. \nIn each aspect of the course\, theory is combined with technical visits to allow participants to experience how guidelines and best practices are translated to the field. \nThe course can be followed in full\, or participants may choose to follow only particular days/modules.

SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn | European Commission's Joint Research Centre activities on RWM and decommissioning
DESCRIPTION:This Lunch & Learn session will be presented by Manuel MARTIN-RAMOS (JRC). Manuel Martín Ramos (Madrid\, 1970) has 25 years of experience in nuclear safety\, management of spent fuel and decommissioning  both in the industry and research areas. Since 2012 he serves in the Euratom Coordination Unit in the JRC Headquarters in Brussels. Manuel was Manager of the Spent Fuel Management Project of José Cabrera Nuclear Power Plant (including the building and commissioning of the Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation)\, and Country Group Chairman (on behalf of Euratom) in the Sixth Review Meeting of the Joint Convention for the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and for the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management\, among other relevant milestones in his professional career. \nClick here to watch the recording of this Lunch & Learn session.
