SUMMARY:31st Training course on Radioactive Waste Management
DESCRIPTION:The 31st course on radioactive waste management\, organized by CIEMAT is now open for registrations. The course provides current knowledge of the radioactive waste management\, and the Spanish radioactive waste plan. For more detailed information\, click here. \nCONTENT:\n– Generation\, characterization and classification of radioactive waste.\n– Radioactive waste in Nuclear Power Plants and Radioactive facilities.\n– IAEA Fundamental Safety Principles.\n– Criteria and objectives of radiological protection.\n– Characterization of radioactive waste.\n– Basic management and storage criteria.\n– Selection\, characterization and evaluation of sites.\n– Low and medium level waste storage.\n– Temporary and definitive storage of waste of high activity.\n– Pollutant’s dispersion in geological environment and in the biosphere.\n– Safety of nuclear facilities decommissioning.\n– Legal framework and quality guarantee.\n– The Spanish Radioactive Waste Company. The National Radioactive Waste Plan.\n– Institutional aspects and international situation.\n– Social participation in decision-making for the management of radioactive waste. \nThe course includes two technical visits: “El Cabril” a waste storage facility (Córdoba) and to the dismantling of the “José Cabrera” Nuclear Power Plant (Guadalajara). \n  \nOBJECTIVE:\nRadioactive waste toxicity requires a safety management in conditions which ensure the minimum risk to people and the environment\, well within the established limits. The 31st course on radioactive waste management provides current knowledge of the radioactive waste management\, and the Spanish radioactive waste plan. This thirty-first course updates the knowledge of radioactive waste management\, through the experience and knowledge of professionals of the sector; It analyzes current problems\, foreseeable ones and their solutions. Its duration is 54 hours.

SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn | Implementation of the world’s first geologic disposal facility for spent nuclear fuel – Status update from Finland
DESCRIPTION:At the end of 2021\, Posiva Oy submitted to the Finnish Government the application for a licence to operate a geological repository for spent nuclear fuel at the Olkiluoto site\, off the South-West coast of the country. The talk will focus on the following:\n• Overall schedule for disposal operations\n• The licensing process and division of responsibilities in Finland\n• The safety case supporting the operating license application\n• Current status of the of the geologic disposal facility and encapsulation plant\n• Addressing challenges related to the construction and operation of a deep geologic repository\n• Path forward toward the beginning of spent nuclear fuel disposal \nPresented by Barbara Pastina. Recorded on June 22nd 2022. \nClick here to view the recording of this Lunch & Learn session.

SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn | Knowledge Management in the German NWMO (BGE) - Origin\, approach and practical implementation
DESCRIPTION:Gunnar Hoefer (BGE) will present and discuss the knowledge management programme at BGE\, Germany. He will discuss the following: \n\nStarting with a short retrospect why the BGE is the responsible Waste Management Organization including the past and current state of knowledge on nuclear waste disposal in Germany.\nShowing the types of knowledge which has to be dealt with and how this challenge is handled in the BGE and what tools used to make them available.\nThis will be supported by a “Life feed” of the software iFinder the BGE is using to make explicit knowledge available. Furthermore one or more examples will be shown for the availability of tacit knowledge showing a “Life feed” of interactive knowledge maps.\nFinally presenting what challenges BGE knowledge management is dealing in the present and future and talking about the BGE KM concepts and how to deal with these opportunities.\n\nClick here to watch the recording of this Lunch & Learn session. \nClick here to view all Lunch & Learn sessions. \n
