The aim of this PhD project is to gain a mechanistic understanding of the hydro-mechanical processes associated with the gas-induced failure of clay barriers (Opalinus clay and compacted granular MX-80 bentonite) and the effectiveness of self-sealing processes. The achievements will be evaluated by model-supported data analyses.
