Organisation Description
The Central Organisation for Radioactive Waste (COVRA) is the Netherlands’ sole entity responsible for the collection, processing, and storage of all radioactive waste. Its facilities include dedicated surface storage for High-Level Waste (HLW) packages as well as Low- and Intermediate-Level Waste (LILW) packages. The storage facilities can be visited by individuals with basic training and students as part of academic programs. While the waste processing facility is also accessible, visits are less frequent due to operational complexity. COVRA’s laboratories are equipped with instruments such as ICP-OES for chemical analysis and pressure banks to monitor the mechanical strength of cementitious waste forms and conditioning materials.
Potential Type of Collaboration
Sharing of technical expertise; participation in working groups; access to data or facilities; training programmes or knowledge transfer activities.
Areas of Collaboration
Radioactive waste management; storage and conditioning of HLW and LILW; monitoring and quality control of waste forms and conditioning materials.
