What can EURAD-2 Work Packages expect from EURAD-2 Competence Building?
Aim of EURAD-2 Competence Building
Work Package (WP) 2 Task 4 focuses on training and mobility actions to support competence building and knowledge preservation and extension/creation in radioactive waste management.
The benefit of continuous interaction with the scientific and technical WPs in EURAD-2 is twofold:
- WP2 Task 4 uses the state of the art knowledge and skills regarding radioactive waste management and the insights from the technical and scientific WPs to feed its activities and disseminate latest findings in order to optimize radioactive waste management competences of all stakeholders
- WP2 Task 4 supports the learning needs from WP partners and EURAD-2 stakeholders
WP2 Task 4 provides expertise regarding learning processes and development of efficient and effective competence building activities. These activities can be courses, but also webinars (e.g. the lunch and learn sessions), networking events (e.g. for the PhD students), internships, scientific visits, etc. The School of Radioactive Waste Management serves as a hub for generated knowledge (through training courses and webinars), planned EURAD-2 activities and references to general events within EURAD-2.
Training courses
One of the main objectives of WP2 Task 4 is to (help) organize training courses in the field of radioactive waste management. More specifically on topics which were identified as gaps in the EURAD Roadmap (see also D13.1 and D13.2). In the overall concept of EURAD-2 the dissemination of new findings from the WPs research activities is foreseen through an allocated task and budget for each WP.
Practically, there are two main ways how these training courses can be organized:
- EURAD WPs contact WP2 Task 4 with a proposal on a training they want to organize based on their expertise and/or research results. WP2 Task 4 will then assist these WPs in setting up the training course, writing up a programme, defining learning outcomes, … WP2 Task 4 will provide support in all steps required to set up a successful training course (see EURAD Deliverable D13.5). A prerequisite is that the proposed training course fills an identified training gap.
- WP2 Task 4 plans to organize a training course to fill a training gap in the Roadmap. Therefore, WP2 Task 4 will contact subject matter experts from several EURAD-2 WPs to contribute to the content and execution of the course. Here, WP2 Task 4 will also support in all steps required to set up a successful training course (see EURAD Deliverable D13.5).
In both cases WP2 financially supports the training course. The following will be covered by WP2 Task 6 (Task 2 KM budget) budget:
- Costs for reservations of lecture rooms during the training course
- Costs for catering (drinks, lunches, …) during the training course
- Personnel costs for the lecturers during the training course
However, some costs are not covered by the WP2 budget:
- Personnel costs for the lecturers for preparing course materials
- Other costs incurred in preparation of the training courses, such as preparing practical exercises.
To get reimbursed, you will have to declare the eligible costs on your Form C during the annual reporting period. WP2 Task 4 will confirm with the Project Management Office and the Coordinator that your WP has provided these services and your WP will be reimbursed through the WP2 training budget. Please note that since this goes via the Form C, you will only be reimbursed for 100% of the incurred costs.
Please note: this does not apply to lecturers external to EURAD-2. External lecturers will provide an invoice for their services (i.e. preparing and teaching a course) and they will be refunded 100% by the WP2 training budget.
Mobility Programme
The second main activity of WP2 Task 4 is the coordination of the EURAD-2 Mobility Programme which financially supports both junior and senior professionals, as well as PhD students and post-docs from EURAD beneficiaries to:
- visit infrastructures from EURAD partners
- undertake internships/exchange programmes between institutions within EURAD
- attend conferences
- attend workshops
As a EURAD-2 partner you can offer visits to your institute’s laboratories and installations, you can offer internships to students and professionals and you can require for yourself, your collaborators or your students a scientific stay is one of the EURAD-2 partner institutes to acquire a certain knowledge, skill or competence.
