The aim of this post-doc project is to understand the impact of indigenous microorganisms of MX80 and Calcigel bentonites on bentonite integrity. In practice, these two bentonites will be compacted with different dry densities and incubated with synthetic porewater and hydrogen gas. The microbial activities will be monitored using ATPase measurement, and next-generation sequencing approaches followed by DNA extraction. Geochemical analyses for mineralogy changes of bentonites will also be applied.
