Organisation Description

Nucleco, a subsidiary of ENEA (with Sogin holding 60% and ENEA 40%), has over forty years of experience in the decommissioning of nuclear installations. At its facilities within the ENEA Casaccia Research Center, Nucleco performs comprehensive decommissioning activities across different nuclear facilities, including PWR, BWR, GCR, and reprocessing plants (Uranium-Thorium and MOX), covering all steps from characterisation to storage.

The Nucleco laboratory carries out radiological and chemical characterisation through:
# Estimation of radiological inventory.
# Analysis using non-destructive techniques such as gamma/tomography scanning, active and passive neutron analysis, X-rays, and proprietary simulation codes and databases.
# Analysis using destructive techniques, including specimen processing, alpha, beta, and gamma spectrometry, and chemical analysis.
# Combined gamma and neutron system characterisation for on-site and off-site surveys using the NIWAS (Nucleco Integrated Waste Assay System).
# Characterisation for the unconditional release of waste and facilities.
