Organisation Description
The State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (SSTC NRS) is a technical support organization (TSO) under the Ukrainian regulatory body, the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine (SNRIU). SSTC NRS provides scientific, analytical, technical, methodological, consultative, and expert support to SNRIU across all stages of the life cycle of nuclear facilities, radioactive waste management facilities, and other radiation sources.
Key activities of SSTC NRS include:
Developing draft regulations to establish regulatory criteria and requirements for the safe management of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel.
Conducting applied and analytical research using advanced computer codes to address safety regulation challenges and implement methodologies for the safety assessment of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel management facilities, including studies of neutron-physical processes, thermal conditions, structural strength, seismic resistance, radiation protection, emergency processes, and long-term storage/disposal safety.
Providing professional training for specialists and experts in radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel management, as well as in radiation monitoring.
Performing radiological measurements, detection, and analysis of potential radiological and nuclear threats, including using the RanidSONNI Radiation Reconnaissance Vehicle (Mobile Radiological Laboratory).
SSTC NRS infrastructures are available for training and internships.
Potential Type of Collaboration
Sharing of technical expertise; participation in working groups; joint research initiatives; training programmes or knowledge transfer activities; access to specialized facilities and mobile laboratories.
