WP FUTURE Education & Training Event on the scientific basis and safety relevant aspects of radionuclide transport and retention

November 17, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Summary

WP FUTURE is holding Education & Training Event on the scientific basis and safety relevant aspects of radionuclide transport and retention. The event could be of relevance to a broad audience of researchers, especially early carrier scientists, interested at better understanding the radionuclide retention mechanisms and their role in different disposal concept.

Objectives

Provide an overview of retention and transport processes, the implication for performance assessment, and the handling of uncertainties.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this training course, participants should be able to discuss the scientific basis for repository safety assessment.

Programme

  • 12h00 – Introduction (Sergey Churakov, PSI)
  • 12h05 – Geological disposal concepts (Norbert Maes, SCK CEN)
  • 12h50 – Sorption and Redox processes (Felix Brand, FZJ & Andreas Scheinost, HZDR)
  • 13h35 – Coffee break
  • 13h55 – Radionuclide transport in clays (Martin Glaus, PSI)
  • 14h40 – Radionuclide transport in crystalline rocks (Venda Havlova, UJV)
  • 15h25 – Performance assessment & Safety analysis: uncertainties and country specific aspects (Thomas Kämpfer, Nagra; Lukas Vondrovic and Lucie Mareda, SURAO; Alex Liebscher, BGE)
  • 16h55 – Closure
